Unconscionable Price Increases

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user May 18, 2024

Customer service is not a term I would apply to dealings with The Morning Call. The company appears to have no employees other than those who control billing.

Original review May 14, 2024
I would like to talk with someone about the subscriber rate for The Morning Call. I have several questions and issues.

First, why do you charge subscribers more for the newspaper than it would cost to buy the paper at a newsstand? In the store, the daily paper costs $4.00; but you propose to charge me $6.64 a day when I'm buying it every day and have done so for at least 40 years. Second, you've been increasing the price almost every couple of months for years. And you've accomplished this in every imaginable way: increasing the daily cost, reducing the number of days covered by the invoice without reducing the total invoice cost at all, reducing the days per invoice by charging extra for supplements that no one ordered or wants, and charging $7.00 just for sending a bill.

At the same time, the newspaper keeps getting smaller and covering less. It's almost like your goal is to become content free while charging more and more as you move toward that goal. Third, our latest invoice has a price increase of $82.50, which makes for a 42% increase over the daily subscriber cost that will be in effect until June 14. How can you justify this?

Fourth, there doesn't appear to be an actual newsroom connected to this newspaper any longer. There's no office one can visit or call. The only contact available is subscription management, which appears to be located in India, Myanmar, or some such place. Fifth, the subscription management has lowered my latest invoice from $325.49 to $236.00 – or have they?

Am I likely to get a new bill after only three or four weeks, instead of every seven weeks? I can tell you that I will never pay more than $236.00 for a seven-week subscription in the future.

And if that means saying goodbye to The Morning Call, so be it. Have someone call me to talk about these issues, if there are still any employees at The Morning Call.

Delivery complaint

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The delivery of our Morning Call newspaper is a TRAVESTY!!! Our former carrier always had the newspaper delivered by 7:00 AM!

She no longer delivers our route. With the new carrier we are lucky if we receive the paper by 9:00 AM! This is totally unacceptable!!

Some days the carrier throws it on our driveway but many days it lays in the gutter of the street. And common Sense would have any normal person to put the paper in our mail box slot on rainy days!

But NO.this idiot carrier throws it in the driveway and we often read a soggy mess of a paper !! Again.UNACCEPTABLE!

I have had to drive to the nearest Wawa or grocery store to buy a paper on many many days!

UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Something must be done to remedy this problem! Or our 7 day subscription will be canceled !

I expect a reply to this email and this horrible situation!

No paper for one month

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am a long time subscriber to the Allentown Morning Call. Since February 9,2024 we have received the paper 9 day which leave 22 days we didnt get a paper.

I have call your customer service daily to report this problem and it seems to fall on deaf ears as NO action is taken to rectify the situation. All your customers service people says is that we can read it online. I am PAYING for a printed copies and NOT received this service. Now you have the audacity to send a bill which states please pay promptly.

Why dont you follow your own order and please deliver the paper promptly! If this situation doesnt rectify its self I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau about your delivery and billing practice. I am expecting a reply as how you plan to rectify this situation.

My contact information is Andrew Toth 1827 W Cedar Street Allentown Pa 18104. Email is toth1827@***.com Thanks you for your promo attention to this ongoing situation.

Complaint about obituary print

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Morning call print on 3/17/24 had red lines down the obituary page. I did not get to speak with anyone yet. I was directed to a different phone number where I then left a message.

Preferred solution: I guess that depends when I speak with someone. Would like laminated copies of the obituary possibly.

Bad customer service

TO: The Morning Call Circulation Dept

I am disgusted with the service I am getting with the circulation of your paper. If this continues, I plan to cancel the paper.

If I do this I will not be getting your on-line paper either.

Here is an update of my miss service

Saturday Jan 13 got SUNDAY insert but no Saturday paper

Sunday Jan 14 Got Sunday paper including the insert which I got yesterday.

Friday Jan 19 no paper

Saturday Jan 20 no paper;

I want credit for the three days I did not get a paper!!!

If my next bill does not give me my credit, I am DEFINITELY cancelling my subscription.

P.S besides the missed paper 3 times I got two papers in the middle of the street wet.

I have a slot for the newspaper on my mailbox. Apparently, your carrier does not know or care if my paper is wet and not in the slot!!!

Very dissatisfied with service.

Billing questions

Ambiguous billing!! December 2023 bill states covers subscription till March.

In the meantime 2 addotional bills received?! Being billed for ? additional paper that I did not agree to and don't want. I wrote a letter to Corporate in Ohio with my 3 bills.

They probably won't even read it! Sad that I'm a former employee of the Morning Call, when based in Allentown PA, and longtime subscriber.

Their customer service is not based in US?! Scam billing with no supervisory person to talk to

User's recommendation: The Morning Call wants you to sign up for autopsy. Don't because the billing is scandalous and you wont6know additional charged unless you check you account frequently

I thought I would give this newspaper another chance with timely delivery.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I thought I would give this newspaper another chance with timely delivery. Many times in prior subscriptions I would have missed papers and quit the subscription.

I figured I would give them anoGet the news on TVther chance as the price was pretty good for a Thursday and Sunday paper. Thursday's paper was not delivered. I called them and they said they would deliver the paper early afternoon. I waited and did not get the paper so I called again and they said it would be delivered today Friday.

It was not delivered so I called again and they said they would deliver it later this morning. It's 11am Friday and I'm still waiting for Thursday's paper.

I'm sick and tired of this. When you have a subscription you should get the paper.

No home delivery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I renewed our subscription in May for the digital subscription, plus paper edition on Thursdays and Sundays. Since then, I have complained numerous times via the customer service phone number.

Each time I am told how sorry they are, and assured that I will get a replacement - to no avail! When I ask for a transfer to someone here in our area I'm told they can't connect me. Moreover, I never get the requested callback! Your lack of true service is appalling!

As if that's not enough, the person who delivers in our neighborhood sailed someone's paper over my husband's head this morning as he threw the paper from his car as he drove by us on our morning walk.

He never slows down enough to get his attention to talk directly to him about the missed paper! Does anyone at the Morning Call actually care about its subscribers, or just our money?
